As a founding member of the Morehead Young Professionals Association, and philanthropy chair she led initiatives like a canned food drive for the former Morehead Community Soup Kitchen. She also instills her love of community and volunteerism in her children. Each Halloween her family participates as team leads for Trick or Treat for the Gateway Homeless Shelter. Her daughters also chose a service project on their birthday each year, supporting organizations like The Tri-County Animal Shelter, LifeCare Center, and Hope Pregnancy Care Center.
Shayla is also a passionate writer who is working to create children’s books centered on the theme of love as an action. She enjoys photography, poetry, music, and meaningful connections with others. Her dedication has earned her the TRIO Achiever Award, numerous print and broadcast journalism awards, photography honors, and published works.
As a MoreLove Board Trustee, Shayla continues her mission to serve underserved individuals. She is especially committed to low-income individuals, first-generation college students, women, children, and anyone searching for community resources and support.
